Free booze!!

This graffiti was painted on the Swedish equivalent to the bottle shop (Systembolaget). It says "Free booze please!". Fantastic.

Well actually it more accurately says "free drunkenness please!". But I realised I don't think there is a good colloquial expression for the noun intoxication (drunkenness / insobriety / tipsiness) in English. At least I can't think of one! How can that be?

"Fylla" is such a useful word. It can be used to describe being out on the piss, it can be described as a way of getting drunk or the actual intoxication itself. Of course Swedish has many words for these things. (See previous posts about the weather - that would explain why people take to the bottle...)

Any suggestions on English words that has the same usage? Surely the Irish would have one at least!

Last stop before my final destination. Munich airport is quite nice actually. Free coffee, tea and newspapers, nice lounge, decent shops, no bloody open "smoking areas" like at Frankfurt airport. Very sleepy when I took this photo.

Pretty guards in white

Sunday is a special day in Athens and the guards wear these pretty white outfits. At 11, a whole army of soldiers in white skirts march in, they do this little dance and change the guards over. All very macho of course.

Went to the food market today. Meat, fish, food everywhere. I must say some of the stuff we saw was a little hard to stomach, but you would eat well if you lived here...
